Our First ever Open Studios!
For the first time ever, we invited the public in to see our creative studios and meet all the wonderful artists and crafters who work here in Osborne Mill. It was a long awaited first opportunity to open our doors due to Covid and staff capacity, and we were all over the moon with the turn out, the vibe and the abundance of activity!
The event involved up to 50 1853 Studios residents opening their doors, presenting their artwork/creations and engaging with both local Oldham residents and those from further afield. Artists sold their artwork, held demonstrations and led workshops. Some highlights were a colourful badge making workshop from Emma Crawley, a large-scale collaborative collage workshop with Rebecca Tokelove, a 3D prosthetics demonstration from James Greenwood and musical demonstrations from Lingua Franca World Community CIC.
We also launched our first full scale group exhibition in our newly refurbished Gallery space, curated by our Creative Director Luca Shaw. It was a wonderful opportunity to see all of our artists presented together in this professional new setting.
To top it all off, we were also visited by Oldham Community Radio who broadcasted live from the studios on the day. They captured the day brilliantly, and you can listen back to that episode here
